The Kii factory, located in Kirinyaga, Kenya, is a processing station operated by the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society, an organization that serves around 1200 members. Having opened in 1953, this station predates Kenyan independence; most farmers that are served by the cooperative work on ⅓ hectare of land and deliver cherries to the factory shortly after harvest. These farmers grow classic Kenyan varieties such as, Batian, SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11.

Peaberries in general are so wicked cool. This washed peaberry from the Kii Factory is a juice explosion. I guess that makes it very hot? This lot was a part of the Kii Factory’s microlot program which separates cherries based on the day they were delivered to the processing station. It is composed of the following varieties: Batian, SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11.

In the cup I find, a tropical juice explosion reminding me of mangosteen, honeydew sweetness, and kiwi tang.
